Birthday card for my Mum part 1

It was my mother’s birthday this past week and yes that meant me having to make 2 cards (one from me and one from my Nan).  I took ages with both of them and today I am sharing my card.

This card is a little different for me as I have not done any Gorjuss or decoupage in ages.  I chose this particular kit from my stash as I felt like choosing some different colours and yes Yellow and Green is different but it is summer, well it claims to be summer, and I wanted it bright and cheery.

After getting the decoupage sorted out I chose the matching papers, from a 12×12 and a 6×6 pack.  I covered the card base with the larger piece of paper and then using some green and yellow adorable scoreable I mounted the 6×6 finally and then the image.  Everything that was left over I used to make the flowers using my Dreamees dies and some faux pearls from my stash (old charity shop faux pearl necklaces that have been chopped up and used for flower centres as and when needed).

I really hope that you like this make and that you pop by again soon.

All that Jazz

Hello and yes it has been a little while since I posted but I took a little break and decided that I would revamp the look on the blog (I hope you like it) and then start with some posts.

This first card I am sharing with you is one which I made for my mother to give to a friend for his 60th birthday.  I admit that I struggle with make cards and this was no exception and I played around with a few ideas before I hit my Hunkydory box.  There I found the All that Jazz stamp and then I looked on their members area to see what the design team had come up with and went with my ideas from there.  I had plenty of inspiration and I was also playing with my distress oxides at the time so I came up with the background and the design went from there.

I used an A3 sheet of Hunkydory paper which is my go to for Distress oxides.  I have enough for a card and bits left over for experimenting or keeping if I need them.  This background was made with just two colours – Broken China and Faded Jeans.  I love the way it turned out.  To make the card I covered the whole of the 8×8 card with some black adorable scoreable and then cut the oxide paper to 7 7/8 x 7 7/8 inches. I then used another piece of black and scored that to 7 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches.  Then I cut the oxide background again to 7 5/8 x 7 5/8 inches.  On this background I used the buildings from the stamp and used these along the bottom.  For the rest of the card I used a mixture of notes and instruments and the numbers 60 (from another set) to form the background.  I then placed this onto the black adorable scoreable.

The middle of the card I cut a piece of the back adorable scoreable to 7 5/8 x 3 inches and then cut my oxide background to  7 1/2 x 2 7/8 inches.  On the oxide background I added the jazz musicians and more of the notes and the wonderful sentiment that is on the stamp set.

I have to admit that this is one of my most favourite makes this year.  I also admit to being obsessed by the Distress Oxides and the effects that I am getting from them.

I hope you like the card and the new blog layout.  Stop by again soon.

Heartfelt Hedgehogs

Hello and welcome back after a mini break due to me not having anything to share, that is because I have a few projects on the go and none of which are finished.  However I discovered this image today that I had forgotten to share so I thought I would share this with you today.

This image is made up of elements from the lovely Dreamees CD Heartfelt Hedgehogs which I have been playing with.  I loved the image of this hedgehog and for once decided to go with the already coloured image for this card. You cannot see it clearly here but I had two images and decoupaged the second image to make the card stand out a bit.  I used papers from the CD and found coordinating yardstick from my Hunkydory Adorable Scoreable collection.  I also used a Sue Wilson Die from the Italian collection just to make more of a feature of the hedgehog. For once I also printed out the images of the flowers and was cutting them out whilst waiting for something else to dry.  The flower centres are made up from charity shop strung jewellery, you know the faux pearls you can buy.  I found that buying these and removing them from their string can provide loads of beautiful pearl embellishments for flowers and it saves me buying embellishments.  The only bit of stamping done on the image is that of Hello Friend which is found in the accompanying stamp collection.

I really like this card and hope I can send it to someone very soon.

Thank you for popping by and I look forward to welcoming you back in a few days when I will hopefully have some more makes to share with you.

Pink and yellow themed cards

Today I am sharing 3 cards with you which I’ve used a palette of pink and yellow and printed papers from the Dreamees Sensational Flowers CD and used some of the Dreamees flower stamps.

This first card I really like as it’s in your face which is nothing like me at all.  The base card is 6×6 and I’ve covered it with a piece of bright yellow adorable scoreable. Then I have layered a piece of paper at an angle and then another piece of bright pink adorable scoreable.  The final layer is another piece of printed paper.

Onto this paper I stamped the bottom layer of a flower all over the base, and also the sentiment, the corner and the butterflies before making my flowers. On separate watercolour paper I stamped the rest of the flowers and coloured them with dinky inkies and allowing them to dry before cutting them out.  I then made up the flowers and stuck them to the stamped base on the card.  The finishing touch was a drop of Tonic Nuvo Crystal drops.

This next card uses the same paper as above and the same yellow card stock but this time I have kept it simple. The flowers were stamped onto the offcuts of the paper and then cut up and made up.  The yellow card I embossed with a folder from Crafters Companion and which lent itself nicely to them.  I arranged the flowers around the sentiment and added the flowers centres as before.

My final card uses the pink theme and also some black. I have stamped and embossed some flowers with embossing powder and the rest onto the striped paper.  Combined with the black card I have embossed the sentiment this time and built up my design from there. I like the card but I’m not really sure if its right though.  Still you cannot go wrong with pink and black and you have to try these things don’t you.

Thank you once again for stopping by and I look forward to your next visit.

Take care

Pretty Pets

Today I am sharing two cards which I made using the new collection from Dreamees called Pretty Pets.  I love Dreamees products because they are reasonably priced but give more than excellent value for money.  Everything is original and I do love how they have introduced MDF to crafters who maybe haven’t felt confident to use MDF.  This collection I love because the designed for the cat and dog lovers and whilst I haven’t made any cards with cats on there are some projects which are in the pipeline.  As my friends know I am owned by a Shih Tzu and I love the cute expression on this doggy.  So here’s how I made the cards.

Firstly I printed out some papers from the accompanying CD and for this card I chose the orange and yellow section as it was something different and it’s not a colour scheme I use often.  I then chose some adorable scoreable to match the colours of the paper.  I first put the orange adorable scoreable on the base of a 7×7 inch card and from there layered the paper with the card.  I cut my Hunkydory Ink Me card and stamped a border around the edge using Black Staz On and also on a smaller piece of card stamped two dogs for both cards.  However I thought that the Ink Me card looked far too white and decided to use the orange and yellow dinky inkies to make a coloured background.  I think it has made such a difference to the card.

I set the card aside to dry and then set to work on the dog.  I used various shades of grey and some black from the Colourblend Essentials tin and built up my shading that way.  I am new to Colourblend pencils and am pleased with the way the fur is.  I cut the dog out and placed it on the card background.  I always save offcuts of card incase I need them so I had some small pieces of black and white which I used to cut the bowl and bone for the final look.  I think it looks fab.

This card is made the same way as the above using the purple and grey palette.  This time I didn’t bother with a stamped border, I put my little dog in the middle and made a border using the bowl and bone.  They are cut from the adorable scoreable used in the card, for a completely different look.

Thank you for stopping by and I look forward to your next visit.

Special Friend

Today I am showing a card I made using a new die.  I bought a set of Die’sire Edgeables and I decided to have a play.  I thought I would combine the butterfly die with the gorgeous Dreamees papers which had butterflies on them and also add some flowers and a sentiment.  First of all I completely messed up a few run throughs with the dies, so I found my Gemini instruction booklet and I realised I needed another plate for the embossing. So I run it through again this time using adorable scoreable sized to 5.5x 5.5.  It run through and then as I was taking it apart, the butterfly tore off.  Argh disaster!  However I decided to glue it and hide it with the sentiment.  With the edgeables die I used, Papillon, the butterflies are cut so you can pop them a little. I cut the Dreamees paper to fit the card and with what was left over I made the three flowers.  I thought this was enough.

The photo does not do the die or the card any justice, the card is pretty though and I am pleased with it and will have another play with my dies soon, although I am expecting my Dreamees dies to arrive any moment!

Thank you for stopping by and please visit again soon, I do love reading the comments you leave.

Babushkas

This design is really rather simple and I love it.

The piece of watercolour card is one which was over from being cut and I fitted the card around it.  I stamped all the sizes of Babushkas and a sentiment and coloured them in using my Spectrum Noir Aquablend pencils.  Once that was finished I looked at my offcuts of Adorable scoreable and found some bright colours which perfectly fitted the design and were bright enough to compliment the black card.  The black card is a scored in half piece of Black Adorable Scoreable.

So simple and very pretty.  I love this stamp set and I intend using it some more.

Thank you for stopping by to visit once again, I do appreciate it.  See you soon
